Boot Camp Assistant makes it possible to install and run Windows operating system on Mac computers without using any virtualization software.
One needs to install required Boot Camp support software or drivers to make sure that keyboard, touchpad, displays and other components of Mac computer work great with Windows operating system.
- Look for a 'Startup Disk' Control Panel in Windows as well as the Boot Camp item in the System Tray (rightmost area of the taskbar by the clock). The icon in the system tray should look like a grey diamond. Both of these will allow you to reboot into OS X.
- After getting my hands on a copy of Windows 8, I ran Boot Camp Assistant on my Macbook Air in Mac OS X, and split my drive to install Windows 8. The installation went without a hitch, but now my trackpad and audio are not working, and I can't run the setup for Boot Camp Control Panel to install.
If you are experiencing display, keyboard, mouse, audio, built-in camera or microphone issues while running Windows 10 on your Mac, you can repair the Boot Camp drivers to fix issues. You can repair the Boot Camp if the Boot Camp Control Panel is not working properly as well.
In addition to repairing the Boot Camp, this method can also be used to update Boot Camp drivers to the latest version.
In Windows on your Mac, click in the right side of the taskbar, click the Boot Camp icon, then choose Boot Camp Control Panel. If a User Account Control dialog appears, click Yes. Select the startup disk that has the default operating system you want to use. If you want to start up using the default operating system now, click Restart. Since High Sierra, the macOS partition is formatted APFS. Due to what I presume is an oversight by Apple, the Boot Camp Control Panel only looks for HFS+ partitions as suitable startup disks. Therefore macOS partition won’t show in Boot Camp Control Panel since High Sierra.
