Hi I was using centos7 till now
I tried root password reset using the following
Boot , Press E, gotoline that reads linuximg - type rd.break
ctrl+x,
mount -o remount,rw /sysroot/
touch ./autorelable
Rebooted the machine
I was able to set new root password & could login to GUI
I repeated the same 2 times but 3rd time the centos on reboot gives only black screen
i had to send shutdown signal from virtualbox & i can see shutting down process cli
how to get back to the boot screen.
please help.
Re: Black screen with pointer after recent update (Centos 7 with VirtualBox) Post by toracat » Fri Jan 04, 2019 8:59 am Try using version 5.2.23 (or later) for the GuestAdditions. For people with the black screen problem or Guro Meditation error, change operating system version from macOS 10.13 High Sierra (64-bit) or macOS 10.12 Sierra (64-bit) to just the Mac OS X (64-bit) and If didn’t work then settle the Video Memory Size to 128 MB from Virtual machine settings. After the 'Starting Windows' boot splash, I receive a black screen (of death) when booting natively. Uninstalling Guest Additions (4.0.4) fixes the problem, but I lose the native resolution when starting the operating system in VirtualBox.

I'm experiencing the same behaviour.

After starting the VM, the 'Arch Linux' boot menu appears with the expected options.
Of these options, the 'Run Memtest86+ (RAM test)' and 'Hardware Information (HDT)' items
seem to function correctly.

However selecting 'Boot Arch Linux (x86_64)' simply blanks the screen and the VM is
no longer responsive to keyboard.

My VirtualBox runs other guests (WIN7) ok, and I've booted the same iso (from a USB drive)
on another (real) PC, so I think the iso file is fine.
